G&G's Top Tech line of airsoft guns bring a revolutionary new addition to the hobby: reliable blowback in an AEG. Okay, so I get the marketing hype, what does this mean in real life. Hands down, a much more authentic replication. This feature is a subtle change during an actual skirmish but it is just one piece of the pie that makes up the realistic military replicas that airsofters enjoy. It's actually shocking that other retailers haven't zeroed in on features like this.

If the blow back is pneumatic, does that mean I am going to loose FPS? Nope! You can lock the bolt back and prevent it from blowing back and the recorded FPS was only 2-3 fps less indicating no impact. We observed the following average FPS:

.20 BB: 342fps
.25 BB: 305fps

G&G has not only made a unique addition to AEGs they have done so at an affordable price. You should expect to find the Top Tech M4 Carbine in the $400 range when first launched.

So, they've changed AEG internals. How does this affect upgrades? AS-R didn't have a chance to upgrade the gun during our hands-on time but we did check in with G&G and get the scoop. They were quick to point out that traditional types of AEG upgrades such as bigger springs to increase FPS could be added with no problems since their blowback piston is external to the main functionality of the gearbox. Any upgrade that can be used on a standard G&G carbine can be used on the Top Tech.

So do I want this gun just because of the blow back? I'm glad you asked! While the pneumatic blow back system is an excellent upgrade on the gun, what good would it be if it wasn't supported by a solid and well built gun? The full metal body and excellent construction is very noticeable the first time you pick the gun up. It feels very hefty and also features licensed markings.

Another feature I haven't seen in other AEGs is the working safety indicator on the back of the safety lever. As you cycle through safe - semi - full you can observe what state you are in on the reverse side. Accurate! The gun also features a working forward assist that when pushed releases the tension on the spring for storage.

Overall, this Top Tech M4 Carbine is an excellent weapon that has proven reliable and a top performer in skirmishing. It's solid fell, strong construction and realistic performing parts escalate this above other AEGs on the market and make it worth a serious look.

The Story Behind the Gun and Its Purchase:
What American-born aisofter doesn’t like the M1 Garand and all its descendants? Well, humor aside, I had my eye on the TSD Socom II for some time before I purchased it on my 21st birthday. When I first held the gun, I was in awe at its rock-solid composition and realistic weight. Mind you, the real Socom II is a pound or two heavier (or so I’ve read), but the rifle still had a very comfortable feel and weight. I bought the gun and it’s been in my room for some time now, and only now have I collected enough data to write a review.

First Impressions:
Heavy. That’ll be the first thing you’ll think. For a mostly plastic spring rifle, it has a very hefty feel. The cocking lever requires a bit of strength to pull consecutively, but it gives the gun an awesome feel (you’ll get used to it too). The safety is still the same way as a realsteel’s: a lever at the trigger guard that when pointed back to the trigger it locked the trigger. The magazine sports 37 rounds, plenty for this gun to fire in a game to provide some minor suppression fire or pseudo-sniper fire. Yes, I said it: sniper fire. This gun’s hop-up is a little quirky in that at a certain point, the BB’s will arc to the left. Getting this adjusted to shoot as straight and far as possible is a little tedious, add that to zeroing in an adjustable hunting scope, and it requires a little more patience. However, once that chore is out or the way, you get a cheap wannabe sniper rifle effective up to about 150 feet (50 meters), give or take a few feet/meters. I also found that while disassembling most of the gun that the stock is actually a separate part of the rifle. If you have the time and patience to whittle and drill out a real wood stock for a Garand or M14/M1A, you can attach a real stock to the TSD rifle….but that’s a task for a later, much later day.

Definitely a primary. If you are trying to use something this big as a secondary, you’re either as big as Volgin, or you have more limbs than the average human.

The RIS rails get in the way of the iron sights when attached, but otherwise a nice look for the gun.

Comfort: 9:10
Supremely comfortable. I think it was Patton who said “This is the greatest battle rifle ever…” or something like that (he was talking about the Garand, though). The teardrop grip is checkered and comfy to hold and aim with, and I love that the charging handle is metal. Cold steel is a great feeling from any airsoft gun.

Accuracy: 8:10
Takes some tweaking, but it’s an overall good gun for minor sniping. If you can’t afford the cheap sniper rifles coming out, this gun will get most of the job done for you once you’ve adjusted it properly.

Durability: 10:10
Like a rock…or is it a Chevy? Anyways, a tough rifle that you can PT with if need be, as well as do some good skirmishing with.

Good Gun to Get?
Yes, defintitely. Especially if you want an M14 that isn’t going to cost over a hundred dollars.

There is one big drawback to all this excitement and hype with airsoft grenades. A decent airsoft grenade will cost you around $40 and the better ones are even higher at prices of up to $120. Many of these airsoft grenades are comprised of multiple pieces some being really small like the holding pin for example.

Throwing one of these airsoft grenades in the middle of an intense airsoft battle with lots of adrenaline pumping can leave you not remembering where you threw your airsoft grenade or in what area it landed. Many airsoft players even after finding their grenade were not able to find all the pieces.

Airsoft grenades are a must have for players that have been in the game for a while, not to mention it would also look really nice hanging from your airsoft gear! The MP5 is a 9mm submachine gun created by gun manufacturers Heckler & Koch in the 1960s. 'The 'MP' in 'MP5' is short for the German Maschinenpistole, meaning 'machine pistol', and it's light weight, compact size and rapid fire have made it a highly successful and widely adopted weapon across the world.

Used by law enforcement units in over 40 countries including the British armed response, the MP5 has seen a large number of variants to adapt itself to any situation thrown at it. However, the most popular variants are the MP5 PDW, featuring a foldable skeletal stock and vertical fore grip, and the MP5A4, featuring a full stock and standard (angled) fore grip.

The MP5 airsoft gun

The first MP5 airsoft gun was first created by Tokyo Marui, but is now produced by a wide range of manufacturers including Classic Army, Jing Gong, Cyma, Well and ACM.

The build quality and materials used will vary from brand to brand, but most have hardened plastic bodies made of ABS or another similar plastic. Due to the compact nature of the gun, most MP5's will use version 2 gearboxes, holding the motor in suspension inside the handle between the bottom plate and the gearbox itself.

The guns use slim curved magazines which can hold high capacity magazines of up to 200 bb's. While a 200 round magazine is relatively small for an airsoft gun, it is possible to carry 5 or 6 quite easily with suitable webbing and even double them up with double magazine clamps if required.

Miraculously, the guns ingenious design means that they can use 8.4v 1400maH stick batteries, threaded along the top of the gun (similar to the AK47's) and connecting at the fore grip. A battery of that type should last you most of the day (assuming you're only firing at what you can actually hit) but it is advisable to change it before it runs out, as removing the battery under fire can be a very difficult task!

Inner barrel length

Unsurprisingly, the compact nature of the MP5 does mean that their inner barrels are very short - in fact, the inner barrel of the MP5K, a mini version of the MP5 with no stock, is only 110mm. This can mean that their effective range is shorter than many airsoft electric guns, however this can be extended with a higher quality barrel or hop up, such as those made by Systema or Prometheus.

Alternatively, the inner barrel can be made longer by extending it into a silencer or using a larger MP5 variant such as the MP5 SD series, which features an elongated fore grip and integral silencer, allowing inner barrel lengths of up to 363mm.

Even in woodland games many snipers find that the MP5K is a fantastic sidearm, and its ability to use stick batteries and 200 round magazines vastly outperforms other machine pistols of that size such as scorpions, tec-9's and mac10's.

Of course, an MP5K is too small a primary weapon in woodland games, and that's where the variants come in. The standard MP5A4 is more than capable as a primary weapon, and if you're a sneaky player you'll love it's light weight size when you're crawling through the mud.

In my opinion, the only things MP5's are not suitable for are as support weapons and sniper rifles, but if you are one of those players, I'm not really sure why you'd be reading about MP5's in the first place!

While gas powered and spring powered airsoft sniper rifle s both offer pretty similar performance, there are a few things to be considered. For example, you never have to buy anything other than airsoft BBs for a spring airsoft rifle, but you have to buy green gas (or propane with the right adapter) to power a gas airsoft rifle.

Again, the performance between gas and spring airsoft rifles is pretty similar, but one important thing to consider is that the temperature can affect the velocity of a gas powered airsoft gun. Generally this wont be much of an issue though, unless you play somewhere that is abnormally cold. One benefit of spring airsoft rifles is that they always perform exactly the same regardless of the temperature.Also, as far as price goes, spring airsoft sniper rifles are always cheaper than the gas powered ones. The difference in price is usually about $40 - $80 or so. In the 1960's Heckler & Koch, a German weapons manufacturer, began developing a family of sub-machine guns designed to provide close range burst fire to security forces. The MP5 (Maschinenpistole) family has been a widely used and adaptable series of weapons. This is similarly so in the Airsoft world. Walk onto any skirmish site in the U.K and amongst the most popular weapons (other than the Armalites) are variations on the MP5.

Furniture and Quality

The MP5 series has a distinctive design, and the Tokyo Marui version has kept quite true to the Real Steel weapon. The weight of the gun is not heavy, yet heavy enough to give poise and purpose to the user. This is complimented by the sturdy feel of the weapon and the lack of cheap creaking plastic.

Naturally the material and colouring of the gun is the standard black part metal / part ABS plastic. The stock is fixed firmly into place like the barrel and receiver. A real rubber butt plate finishes off the stock. On this version the metal parts (not including internals) are the flash hider, front sight assembly, charging handle, charging handle tube (only metal on the HG version), magazine, mag catch, mag release, both sling hooks, trigger, selector switch, rear sight (only metal on the High Grade version). It certainly is enough to give it a realistic feel.

Tokyo Marui have included markings on the weapon to make it look like a real H&K weapon. The fire selector is marked in the usual red and white 'easy to understand' diagram. The fire selector clicks solidly into each firing mode and doesn't slip. On the left hand side of the gun above the magazine it reads "Kal.9mmx19" and on the top of the receiver it is stamped with "HK MP5" and then a fake serial number. The only TM markings are on the right hand side of the gun, again above the magazine well "Made in Japan Tokyo Marui".

Performance

In my reviews I base the ability of the weapon to skirmish as priority in preference to punching paper. As most Airsofters will intend to skirmish with this weapon, mostly CQB too, I have to say that the sturdiness of the gun gives you confidence to "use" it.
The standard boxed version includes a 50 round magazine. I adopted the review weapon second hand I had the benefit of two hi-cap magazines. The magazines click firmly into place inside the magazine well. Once you are ready to fire the ambidextrous selector switch can be easily flicked to your preferred firing rate. The single (semi-automatic) selection is quite good offering a stable.

The Tactical Duostock is a really nice ergonomic stock. Most airsofters elect to upgrade their stock by adding a battery carrying stock, but if you don’t go that route, check out the Duostock.

Why the Duostock?
Normal M4 stocks are built so that when wearing body armor or web-gear only a small portion of the stock is actually in contact with the operator’s shoulder when the rifle is in the up position. The Duostock has a larger surface that is curved in order to enable fuller contact while the rifle is up.
With this shape the rifle “rolls” into position naturally, and the operator’s eye lines up with the optics naturally.

Quality-
The Duostock is made of the same type of plastic as any other (real steel) M4 stock. It is very tough. Duostocks come in Dark Earth and Tan. The adjustment paddle is much stiffer and sturdier than most M4 stocks.

So you have the airsoft gun, ammo, the tactical gear, and most importantly you convinced some friends to hop on board, what is left? Now you just need a place to utilize all your new equipment. If you are lucky enough to live in one of the airsoft hot spots, there is no lack of places to play. However for the other ninety percent, we usually have to rely on the generosity of private property owners.

Some of my fondest airsoft memories are of a small group playing on a private wooded lot or friend's farm. As our group grew and more and more new faces arrived, it became apparent the need for a legitimate field was necessary. Your neighbor may be fine with you and a dozen of your friends and co-workers using his overgrown acreage to play airsoft, but when that number grows to a couple dozen private property owners begin to get nervous.

Whether you choose to lease space or use your personal property, airsoft field insurance is your next step. Insurance for airsoft usually runs a couple thousand dollars a year and covers the big three: property damage, liability, and medical. The insurance company may require copies of lease agreements, field diagrams, field rules, and a legal waiver.

Lease agreements and field diagrams I will touch on briefly. Make sure the person you are leasing from is fully aware of what you intend to do with the property, and make sure your airsoft field is legal under your lease and abides all local laws. You do not want to find out later that your time and money are wasted because of a technicality. Field diagrams need not be detailed, a simple outline will suffice, and the insurance company appear to be most concerned with entrances and exits.

You will need to supply field rules before most insurance companies will even supply you with a quote. Whether good or bad, the insurance company will dictate most of the rules you will need. The remaining field rules usually entail the administrative and management of the field, and will be dependent on your field layout and the types of games you will be hosting. A lot of fields have rules posted on the internet and can be a good jumping off point.

The legal waiver should be drawn up by a local attorney. Hosting an event of this type is nothing out of the norm; most will charge a nominal fee to draft one for you. You may have to take a little time to acquaint your attorney with airsoft, and it may not be a bad idea to let them review your lease agreement will you are there.

Appearance/Feel/Handling-
There is no mistaking this shotgun for the real thing, the exterior is mediocre.

Stock: The stock is made of a lightly textured plastic. It is decently solid although it is a little creaky between the stock and the receiver. There is a sling mount on the side of the stock although I'm not sure I'd rely on the pot metal it's made of. The butt pad is firmly mounted and made of a shiny, hard rubber. It offers a bit more grip in the shoulder but not much else.

Receiver: The plastic on the receiver is shiny and has no texture. The plastic is adequate but not impressive. A firm squeeze yields a bit of bend, proof the material is maybe a bit soft. There are some very, very small mold marks but nothing I'd be upset about.

Grip and Forestock: The grip and pump are both covered in the same rubberized coating. The coating offers better grip and looks much better than the rest of the bare plastic on the replica. After handling, the rubber shows the oil from your hands. There is a thick seem in the bottom of the pump. Overall, I'm glad the rubber texture is there but it's not perfect.

Outer Barrel Area: The outer barrel and cocking tube are both made of metal. Pot metal but metal none-the-less. An orange plastic ring is glued to the end to identify that it is not real. A sling mount is placed in front, but again I'm not sure I'd trust it.

The shotgun is easy to snap to the shoulder but has some issues with feel. The trigger is too far and too high so it feels like a bit of a stretch. The location of the pump also feels a bit far away, from the perspective of someone who is 5'10".

Performance-
The performance of this shotgun is reminiscent of a real shotgun, short range and spread accuracy. With each pump this replica fires three bbs. This is a cool feature however it doesn't work as perfectly as you'd hope. Up to about 15-20 yards all three bbs will impact within the size of a torso. After that distance though one bb curves sharply up, one bb curves sharply down, and one bb flies true. This means that after 20 yards only one bb is truely effective, this one bb though reaches out about 30 yards. All things considered this shotgun should be used for CQC and other short range scenarios. I would not recommend this for field use, you simply won't keep up with AEGs.

FPS: 302.6 with AE .2 on Madbull chrono

The trigger is a little sloppy but the user can still feel when it is about to release. The trigger pull is short but heavy. Pumping the shotgun is not too strenuous. The pull is deceiving, you have to pull back further than you think you should. There is a thick click at the end of the pull.

The replica uses a 30 round shell as a magazine. It can be easily loaded and works perfectly.

Problems-
The metal used in this replica is nothing special so this may become a problem in the future. I do question the long term reliability of this replica. The way this springer works puts a lot of stress on the internal components which may eventually result in their failure.

Conclusion-
This shotgun does not give a lot in the way of performance but is still fun to mess around with. It would work for close quarters but is unusable in any kind of ranged encounter.

Tokyo Marui Colt Hi-Capa

This is a very brief review of the Tokyo Marui Colt Hi-Capa. The much-awaited Colt Hi-Capa shipment arrived at Guernsey yesterday (02/08/04)! It was bought in by Battletech in Guernsey who tend to get stuff a few weeks before the mainland. They offer excellent prices and get the best gear in first. Now I was trying to save this month but damn it these things are so cool! So I, along with a few other guys, became the first people in the UK to own one of these beauties!

Despite its mainly plastic construction the Colt feels sturdy when you first pick it up. As with all other Tokyo Marui GBBs the construction is top quality with no noticeable seams or rattles. The magazines are large and are of all metal construction and they hold a large amount of gas, similar to the Desert Eagle's capacity, and hold 31 rounds.

The pistol itself features blow-back (obviously), adjustable hop up, dual safety and adjustable sights. It fires with a very crisp action and this is probably down to the lightweight top slide. The blowback action is stronger than a TM Beretta's but not quite up to the arm wrenching action of the TM Desert Eagle. The box claims "Hi-Kick, Hi-Grouping", yes, well they're right about the first part but I'm not to sure about the "Hi-Grouping" claim! Saying that the double tap with this pistol is very controllable and you can keep the grouping quite close but if you start hammering the trigger you can expect to suffer slightly in the accuracy department! Obviously this is no different from any other gas blow-back.

I have not messed around with the adjustable hop yet because it is hopped perfectly for 0.2s out of the box. The hop up can be adjusted by removing the top slide and adjusting a wheel, not as easily accessible as the TM Desert Eagle's system but still fairly simple to use. The rear site is also adjustable through 2 turn screws built into it but I have not needed to adjust mine, as they are pinpoint out of the box.

Power is impressive and I would guess it’s at about 300-330FPS. It will penetrate one side of a coke can and crack the other side. You can download a video from this site of me firing the pistol through a can. Despite this power the magazine has enough gas capacity to last about two and a half mags, which is impressive when you consider these magazines hold 31 rounds! You will also find that you get no noticeable power fade till after you've fired off at least 2 mags worth of bbs on one gas charge. This is very impressive as most gas pistols start to lose power before you've even got to the end of your second mag. It will even maintain its power when you rattle off a whole mag as quickly as you can!

The trigger is light and sensitive and you can fire off a whole mag exceptionally quickly due to the short trigger pull and quick cycling action.

There are a couple of problems with the Colt Hi-Capa. Firstly the magazines seem to jam up every so often although this is due to their newness and another owner claims this can be cured by giving the mag a quick clean with silicone (amendment- The magazines do wear in after having been used a few times and mine no longer jam up). The other issue is that the top slide release is a long way from your thumb so you have to take your finger away from the trigger to release the top slide, when it locks back, or use your other hand. I normally run a tac master and I find them better ergonomically, although the safety is very well placed on the 1911 frame. The other slightly more severe problem is the O-ring that sits on the piston head like to go walkies!

Noise Discipline In Airsoft

Playing airsoft at night or under indoor low light conditions can be a great change of pace. You can experience the action of a gun fight with the highs and lows of watching a horror film. To succeed under these conditions, you must practice good noise discipline.

In low light conditions the importance of hearing is increased. Frequent pauses in movement to listen for your opponent and to get a bearing on your team's position will help insure that you and your team do not become a victim of friendly fire.

In addition to frequent listening stops, you yourself must insure that all equipment is secure and does not generate noise as you move. The metal brackets on your airsoft gun sling and the radio loosely attached to your vest will allow the opposite team to pinpoint you as easily as if you were calling out to them. It is best, before you set out, to jump up and down and listen for noises that you can prevent. Higher frequency noises, such as metal on metal, are much more prone to directional location via sound.

In low light conditions it is usually best to slow your movement down and keep your breathing under control. If your breathing is elevated and forceful your ability to hear is greatly diminished, and you will have to sacrifice crucial time to allow for your breathing to fall back to a level that will not impair your hearing.

You may also want to forgo the usual fully enclosed face and head protection in favor of an eye and face only style mask. The impact from an airsoft BB in the ear can be a painful event, but the increased ability to pin point sounds may be worth the slight chance of being hit in a tender spot. Given that being hit in the head, neck, or ear will cause no permanent damage, you must decide if the increased ability to hear and locate sounds is worth the pain risk.

Depending on your level of airsoft sophistication, you may require .20 BBs, or perhaps you may even want to use 6mm paintballs. That's right, using 6mm paintballs instead of typical airsoft ammunition can really enhance your next military or police simulation. Think about it, you get the splat of the paintball arena, combined with the accuracy and authentication of airsoft. It's kind of like the perfect combination.

Be careful with the Lower End Airsoft Weapons

Spring action pistols and rifles can present a problem when it comes to achieving the higher levels of play, and using the higher quality airsoft BBs. Spring action airsoft pistols and rifles tend to have less power than their electric and gas counterparts, and therefore may have trouble handling the heavier airsoft BBs. Typically, the spring airsoft guns are made for .12 standard 6mm airsoft BBs, normally the cheapest of the available ammo, and often known by simply "airsoft BBs" or "seamless airsoft BBs". Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the quality of these BBs, however for long range fire and accuracy, they simply don't compete with the heavier, higher quality BBs.

For Electric and Gas Power Players

For the serious airsoft enthusiast, they should be looking at airsoft guns that can easily handle .20 and greater airsoft BBs. A gun that fires at 300 feet per second or higher is a good choice, and will allow you to hit targets with accuracy at 50 feet and greater. If you really want to pack the punch, try a .23 or .25 BB. Of course, these BBs are not going to have the range of .20 BB, but they will be accurate, and sting more than the lighter BBs. Hybird Airsoft Gun

Hybrid airsoft guns originally debuted in the middle of 2006, although they have not become very popular since. This new type of airsoft gun functions differently from gas, electric, and spring airsoft guns (although it is powered electrically). In fact, it works almost exactly like a real gun. BBs are placed in the front of real-like shells, and red caps placed in the back. The shells are inserted into the magazine, and the magazine can be loaded regularly. After pulling the trigger, the firing pin in the gun hits the red cap on the back of the shell, which explodes and creates a high pressure inside the casing. This pressure pushes the BB out through the barrel at a velocity which is unachievable by the other three types of airsoft guns.

Real guns operate very similarly, in that the firing pin strikes the primer, creates a spark, and ignites the gunpowder. The burning of the gunpowder creates gas and pressure inside the shell, which pushes the bullet out. The differences between the real gun way and the airsoft gun way is that only a tiny amount of gunpowder is used in the red caps for airsoft (while a lot is used in real shells), and the pressure created in an actual gun is much higher than in an airsoft gun (also, there is the key difference of the projectile being metal instead of plastic).

With a hybrid gun, you obviously need to be much more conservative with your shooting, or if you feel the need to fire a great deal, you must take a lot of time to prepare more rounds. That is the clear negative of hybrid guns; the need to prepare each round (or you could probably buy rounds pre-assembled, but they will of course be more expensive than regular BBs). However, there are positives. For one, many players will be attracted because of the stunning realism, as now not only does the gun look real, but so does the ammunition. As stated, because of the nature of the ammo, the velocity achieved is very high. This is great for snipers, who now can shoot from much further back (higher speed = more distance). In fact, hybrid guns would be good for many single shot airsoft models, although using one in a semi-automatic or fully automatic model would result in paying a lot of money or using a lot of time for the ammunition.

With the introduction of hybrid guns, one wonders how realistic airsoft guns can get. Some airsoft guns look completely real (save for the orange tip), and now even the ammo and some internal mechanisms are functioning realistically. Due to the military’s growing use of airsoft guns, researchers are developing airsoft advancements faster. It seems the hybrid airsoft gun is just a glimpse of what new glories airsoft holds for us.

` BBs. There are many different types of BBs out there. You can choose from multiple colors; yellow is most popular. Biodegradeable BBs are becoming more and more popular. Airsoft Danger to Humans

Airsoft pellets typically leave small welts on human targets. While only mildly painful this isn't especially damaging to the skin. Eye protection is universally required to prevent damage to eyes. It is also often recommended that face masks be worn while during Airsoft matches to protect the players' teeth as on very rare occasions players have had teeth chipped or knocked out by a well-placed pellet.

The following excerpts are from the United Kingdom Parliament's "Principles of firearms control", Home Affairs Select Committee Second Report, 6th April 2000, expound on the level of danger involved with low-energy projectiles:
The Firearms Act 1968 defines a firearm "a lethal barreled weapon of any description from which any shot, bullet or other :missile can be discharged". In this context, a "lethal weapon" means a weapon capable of firing a projectile with sufficient :force to inflict more than a trivial injury, i.e. with a force sufficient to puncture the skin. The force with which a firearm :is able to deliver a projectile is normally expressed in terms of the kinetic energy it generates at its muzzle—the "muzzle energy". :This force is normally expressed in units of foot-pounds (ft·lbf) or joules.

The Home Office and the Forensic Science Service considers that the lowest level of muzzle energy capable of inflicting a penetrating wound is one foot pound force below these power levels, weapons are "incapable of penetrating even vulnerable parts of the body, such as the eye". However, more recent analysis by the Forensic Science Agency for Northern Ireland has indicated that a more reasonable assessment of the minimum muzzle energy required to inflict a penetrating wound lies between 2.2 and 3.0 ft·lbf. We will deal more fully with this discrepancy at paragraphs 123 to 130 below.

The power level at and above which an air weapon is considered a firearm in law is presently set at 1 ft·lbf. However, we note above that the Forensic Science Agency of Northern Ireland has more recently assessed the power level at which a barreled weapon is capable of inflicting a lethal wound as between 2.2 and 3 ft·lbf, and the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland has proposed that the law relating to firearms in Northern Ireland be amended to take this into account.

Airsoft Game Modes

Several common airsoft game modes are as follows:

Deathmatch / Free For All

In this mode, all players are set against each other; there are no teams and alliances between players are usually frowned upon. This mode is usually the most frantic because players have only themselves to rely on, meaning dealing with fire from numerous directions and more difficulty gaining solid cover.

Examples: Last man standing (Ultimus homo stans)

Team Deathmatch / Teams

In this mode, teams are formed between several players. Usually the teams are balanced (no team has more players than the other). The members of a given team have to work together to eliminate all the other players in the game. When all of the players on a team are out, that team is eliminated. This continues until all teams are eliminated. A variation on this is seek and destroy, where one team hides and the other team must find them.

Examples: Last team standing

Capture the Flag

The classic kid’s game with a twist: (usually) two “bases” are set up with a flag (or similar objective) in each one. The players are divided into teams and have to steal the flag from the other team’s base and return it to their own. Usually, if a player is “killed,” they can return to their base and start again.

Examples: Traitors (each team has one player that is a traitor)

Center Flag

Similar to capture the flag but only one flag is placed in the middle of the two teams bases. First goal: capture the flag. Second goal: take the flag to the enemy base. When the flag reaches the enemy base, the enemy loses. If the flag carrier is eliminated, anyone can pick up the flag. For extra long games, multiple flags can be used.

Examples: Capture explosives (1st goal) + Commando raid (2nd goal)

Siege or King of the hill

In this game type, there are two teams: Attackers and Defenders. The Defender team is given a usually fortified position while the Attacking team has to kill all of the Defenders in order to win.

Examples: Hostage rescue (SWAT team)

Carry the flag

One flag and one team carrying it. Objective is to take the flag from point A (normally team base) to point B. The interception team objective is to prevent the flag from reaching point B. There are two variants of this game type, one for long games and another for short games. Games can be longer if anyone can be flag carrier or shorter if only one flag carrier exists. The game ends when no more players can carry the flag (long version) or when the flag carrier is killed (short version).

Examples: president rescue/walk (single flag carrier), Drag the doll (multiple flag carriers), Arm&Destroy objective/Bombing run/place the bomb (flag/bomb carrier).

Grab the flag

One flag is placed in a location away from all teams. The objective is to be the first to reach the flag. The player/team that first reaches (grabs) the flag alive wins. For longer games, a moving flag can be used.

Examples: Manhunt or Foxhunt (one player tries to reach flag - escape), prisoners escape (multiple players trying to reach flag - escape)

Zombie

Start out with everyone alone, similar to a Free-For-All game, but because waiting for a round to end is boring, those that get shot form teams with the player or players that shot them. Works well if you have a lot of open space, or an uneven number of players. For starting have each person go to a seperate spot of the field and start it. When you get shot you can either throw you hands up in surrender so they (hopefully) stop shooting you or, you can run to the nearest ammo depot reload and then come back to help your newly formed team.

Respawn

As mentioned before waiting for a round to end can suck, therefore respawn it. This is done by, A) once you get shot do a set number of pushups then get back in the game B) count for a set number of seconds then get back in the game or C) run to a designated base and come back to play. This may, however, lead to “spawn camping” which can be fixed by making any player to be caught doing so stand before a firing squad, or simply go with option C.

MILSIM (MILitary SIMulation)

This is airsoft combined with live action role-playing elements, where multiple missions have to be carried out by all teams of players while the mission objectives of each team are very likely to interfere with each other.
