While gas powered and spring powered airsoft sniper rifles both offer pretty similar performance, there are a few things to be considered. For example, you never have to buy anything other than airsoft BBs for a spring airsoft rifle, but you have to buy green gas (or propane with the right adapter) to power a gas airsoft rifle.

Again, the performance between gas and spring airsoft rifles is pretty similar, but one important thing to consider is that the temperature can affect the velocity of a gas powered airsoft gun. Generally this wont be much of an issue though, unless you play somewhere that is abnormally cold. One benefit of spring airsoft rifles is that they always perform exactly the same regardless of the temperature.Also, as far as price goes, spring airsoft sniper rifles are always cheaper than the gas powered ones. The difference in price is usually about $40 - $80 or so. So if you combine this with the fact that you have to buy gas on an on-going basis (assuming that you have a gas powered airsoft gun), it becomes pretty obvious that a spring powered airsoft rifle is a much cheaper choice.

When it comes to appearance, you cant really tell spring and gas powered airsoft sniper rifles apart, other than by closely examining their magazines. The magazines are totally different between the 2 guns, since the gas airsoft rifles actually store their gas inside of the magazine, while spring powered airsoft guns only store BBs inside of their magazines.

All of the spring airsoft sniper rifles are bolt action, single shot guns. In fact, they can ONLY be single shot, since you have to cock back a heavy spring each time you shoot them. Most of the gas powered airsoft sniper rifles are bolt action (single shot) too, but they can also be semi-auto. This is a huge advantage that the gas powered airsoft sniper rifles have over the spring powered sniper rifles.

Another benefit of gas powered airsoft sniper rifles is that they generally shoot at a higher velocity than the spring powered sniper rifles. Gas airsoft rifles usually shoot around 60-80 FPS faster than spring powered airsoft rifles (assuming that the guns are left stock, and have not been modified at all).

Accuracy is exactly the same between spring and gas powered airsoft sniper rifles. However, in some cases you may want to use heavier airsoft BBs for gas powered airsoft guns, due to the fact that they usually shoot a littler faster than spring airsoft guns (and the faster your airsoft gun shoots, the heavier the BB that you will have to use in order to maintain consistent accuracy).

When it comes time to decide whether to go with a gas powered or spring powered airsoft sniper rifle, just remember that each one has its strengths and weaknesses. If you want a semi-automatic airsoft sniper rifle, then you will have to go with gas powered one. If you want to save money, and never want to worry about buying gas, then go with a spring powered sniper rifle.

Airsoft Tokyo Marui MP5 Review

In the 1960's Heckler & Koch, a German weapons manufacturer, began developing a family of sub-machine guns designed to provide close range burst fire to security forces. The MP5 (Maschinenpistole) family has been a widely used and adaptable series of weapons. This is similarly so in the Airsoft world. Walk onto any skirmish site in the U.K and amongst the most popular weapons (other than the Armalites) are variations on the MP5.

Furniture and Quality

The MP5 series has a distinctive design, and the Tokyo Marui version has kept quite true to the Real Steel weapon. The weight of the gun is not heavy, yet heavy enough to give poise and purpose to the user. This is complimented by the sturdy feel of the weapon and the lack of cheap creaking plastic.

Naturally the material and colouring of the gun is the standard black part metal / part ABS plastic. The stock is fixed firmly into place like the barrel and receiver. A real rubber butt plate finishes off the stock. On this version the metal parts (not including internals) are the flash hider, front sight assembly, charging handle, charging handle tube (only metal on the HG version), magazine, mag catch, mag release, both sling hooks, trigger, selector switch, rear sight (only metal on the High Grade version). It certainly is enough to give it a realistic feel.

Tokyo Marui have included markings on the weapon to make it look like a real H&K weapon. The fire selector is marked in the usual red and white 'easy to understand' diagram. The fire selector clicks solidly into each firing mode and doesn't slip. On the left hand side of the gun above the magazine it reads "Kal.9mmx19" and on the top of the receiver it is stamped with "HK MP5" and then a fake serial number. The only TM markings are on the right hand side of the gun, again above the magazine well "Made in Japan Tokyo Marui".

Performance

In my reviews I base the ability of the weapon to skirmish as priority in preference to punching paper. As most Airsofters will intend to skirmish with this weapon, mostly CQB too, I have to say that the sturdiness of the gun gives you confidence to "use" it.
The standard boxed version includes a 50 round magazine. I adopted the review weapon second hand I had the benefit of two hi-cap magazines. The magazines click firmly into place inside the magazine well. Once you are ready to fire the ambidextrous selector switch can be easily flicked to your preferred firing rate. The single (semi-automatic) selection is quite good offering a stable.

Medic is a type of airsoft game that gives players who have been hit the chance to get back into the action once they have been "healed" by a player designated as the medic. Typically the game is played with the goal of team domination or death match, but there are many variations that can be played with medics. If you are participating in a skirmish using this scenario, be sure to learn the specific rules for being healed, or "respawned" for the group organizing the skirmish.

In a skirmish, the player chosen as the medic is usually either unarmed or lightly armed. When another member of the medic’s team is hit, the medic can “heal” the down player, who may then return to the game. The player who has been hit is required to stay down until the medic arrives in most cases, though depending on the particular game, sometimes a hit player is permitted to go find the medic after a certain period of time has passed. Players may be permitted to defend themselves with their airsoft guns while they are down, or they may not. A medic makes it possible for individuals to stay in the game longer, but there are usually limits dictating the number of times a player can be healed and return to play.

With the ability to bring a hit player back into the game, the medic is key to the endurance of the team in an airsoft skirmish. If the opposing team hits the medic during play, the medic is out of the game, and the other members of the team can no longer be brought back after being hit.

Some teams play the game with a higher degree of realism, with the medic imposing fake "injuries" that hinder players in some way depending on where they are hit. Since players are often brought back multiple times during a skirmish, playing airsoft with a medic can take more time than the typical 'one hit and you're out' scenario. When you are getting ready to play a game of this type, be sure you have plenty of time and ammo!
